This internship will be working within Municipal Government, playing an important role with special projects to assist in improving efficiency and effectiveness within the Town of Brownsburg while working in a fast-paced work environment.

Reports to:  Assistant Town Manager

Hours:  15-25 hours per week; days and time flexible according to the student’s schedule and requirements for credit. Anticipated duration of internship will be twelve (12) weeks (May  – August 2018) which is subject to change at the discretion of the Town Manager’s office. The Town’s normal business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some evening hours may be required.


Assisting Town Manager’s Office in the daily operations of all Town department and functions.
Gather, interpret and prepare data for studies, reports and recommendations as needed.
Assist in the completion of the Town’s strategic plan.
Assist in budget preparation.
Prepare and maintain inventory, records and reports.
Participate in public outreach efforts which may include tours for school groups, civic groups, government agencies and others as requested. Will assist with events such as Farmer’s Market as needed and as schedule will allow.

Qualifications/Skills Needed:

Currently enrolled and working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Political Science, Finance, Planning or related field.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all personnel and citizens at a professional level.
Ability to administer multiple projects and work in a team atmosphere, and to participate in and coordinate public meetings.
Ability to successfully manage change.
Ability to effectively and diplomatically resolve employee-related conflicts.
Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Must have a safe work record with good ethics and dependable attendance record.
Must have and maintain, a valid Indiana Driver’s License, a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the Town’s liability insurance carrier.
Must be familiar with and able to use Microsoft Office Suite.
